Laptop touch pad keyboard problem?

I turned on my laptop today and i could not use the mouse pad or keyboard, i can use the keyboard in the bios and i can use an external mouse. i tried reinstalling windows and i am stuck at the username selection screen since i cannot type anything. i tried pushing Fn+F7 or Fn+F6 and had no luck. How can i fix this?
