Can I swim on my period without a pad?

Ok, I need help FAST. I got my second period lastnight and im having a Fourth of Julyh party today at my house. I tried a tampon but im too scared to do it, help please?! i dont wanna not swim because, well, its MY party, so i kinda need help fast? partys this afternoon.
